Multifaceted Bossaball interweaves art in sports
By amalgamating music and sports, Bossaball gets the best out of both disciplines. Our dynamic rallies alongside exotic tunes have proven to take both players and public to a higher level. Taking it a step further, the progressive concept of Bossaball as well integrates contemporary art in sports.
It is up for discussion, whether sport is considered as a form of art or not. In any case, the question arises if, to a certain degree, there is a connection between sports and art. The latter is the expression of human creative skill and imagination. Sport, on the other hand, is seen as an activity that involves physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.
Beyond question lies the fact though that many sports disciplines involve skills, creativity, and imagination and its expressions and movements are appreciated as flawless art. The New York Times sets forth that Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, believed that sports and the arts were inextricably linked. Between 1912 and 1948, medals were awarded to painters, sculptors, architects, writers, and musicians, whom participated in the Olympic Games. The worlds of sports and art are not all that different!
Along these lines, our projects and collaborations have been fully personalized to enrich the Bossaball experience, offering a different sporting approach to local culture through art and design. Bossaball, where sports meet contemporary arts, a multidisciplinary approach.
Vienna Calling – Bossaball fuses art in sports
The promotional elements for the Beach Volleyball World Champs in Austria were thoroughly customized. Vienna’s streetscapes, imperial palaces and its legacy in classical music were reflected in the event poster. Following our music and sports fusion, the first major event on Austrian soil was dedicated to legendary native singer Falco: Vienna Calling.
The Piet Mondrian Bossaball court
In honor of Piet Mondrian and the 100th anniversary of the arts movement De Stijl, a Bossaball court inspired by the Dutch artist was created. Mondrian was among the best-known artists involved in this international art movement and his abstract paintings, with their primary color planes and black lines on a white ground, quickly became world-famous and a guiding light for the movement. His fundamental design was projected onto the layout of the Bossaball court and the Vienna Calling exhibition cup was played on a giant Mondrian-inspired creation.
On top, the jerseys of the Colombian team and a new design of the original Bossa-balls recalled the style of the Dutch painter. The legacy of Mondrian additionally provided the blueprint for the Vienna Calling cup after movie at the Beach Volley World Champs: contemporary art in sports mega events!
Bossaball comes home for the 2016 Olympics
Exactly 20 years after the first inspiration of our fusion of music and sports, the International Volleyball Federation reached out to Bossaball to be a part of the #VolleyballYourWay movement at the FIVB CopaCourts. An opportunity to engage with new fans during the Olympics Games 2016 in Rio De Janeiro, right at the panoramic Copacabana…Bossaball came home! Five national teams participated in the tournament #AtTheCopa. The fixture reminisced the diverse vibes at Brazil’s most famous beach, where colorful tunes meet recreational activities.
