The first (recorded!) association bossaball matches in South America were played at the end of March in Argentina by the home squad and the representative team of Chile.

Argentina crushed its neighbour country in Mendoza by beating them with 21-7 and 21-11 during the first match. After that, international manager of bossaball Wilco Nijland intervened and drew up an appraisal.

“Both teams have much more potential, but they need more specific practice”, Nijland explained. According to him, Argentina has very good volleyball players and a well-balanced structure and know how to toss around the ball. But their movement is small beer compared to the athletic acrobatic skills of the high-achieving Chileans. “The best of both would already make a great worldwide bossaball team”, Nijland thinks.

A 'return fixture' was played after a couple of days of practice.
Especially the Chileans proved their potential. They lost again, but it was tight this time: 21-19 and 22-20.

During his visit to the South American continent Nijland also watched the erformances during the reality show 'Calle 7' in Paraguay. A popular TV show broadcast by channel Telefuturo three times a week, similar to a reality TV programma in Chile called 'Mundos Opuestos. One of the physical challenges that is part of the show's concept is to play Bossaball.

Paraguay joined the bossaball family last summer and is licensed by the campsite/ insentive company of Aparacha.

Nijland is very positive about the developments in Paraguay. “Good practice”, he says. And Nijland is lyric about the new Paraguayan trampoline player, Lucio. “He jumps like a madman. Lucio does double flip flops and is still capable of kicking the ball over the net. The bossaball sport will surely enjoy his presence in future international events. ”
